Having arrived so late at night, the first order of business was to sleep in, then grab a coffee. Otherwise, our day-off in Fredericton was spent enjoying the company of friends, gathering provisions, and getting ourselves sorted for a few days on the river.
We even managed to squeeze in a quick trip to the local outdoor pool, walked Cody down to the St. John River (for another swim), and grabbed the opportunity for a sneaky afternoon nap in the swinging chair hanging on the front porch.
Later that day, having made all the necessary preparations between lazy afternoon beer and chips, we took a moment to have a look at the map. The plan was fairly simple; on Day 1 we would get up early and drive to Kedgwick, NB, to meet up with our outfitters, Arpin Canoe. Arpin is located on the Restigouche near the entrance to the Kedgwick river. From there, it would be a gentle paddle down to a camp spot near Hafford.
The rest of the plan was a little up in the air, but the general idea was to make Day 2 a pleasant paddle down to a camp spot near Whites Brook Island and spend Day 3 heading down river to the pull-out point near Gilmores. Awesome. Can’t wait.
While we had prepared ourselves for this trip by paddling out to camp on an island in the Kejimkujik National Park earlier in the year, this was our first multi-day river trip, so all of us were excited and none of us knew what to expect.
If it was anything like the day-trip we took on the Restigouche for Gumpy's birthday two years earlier, then we were in for an amazing experience. With temperatures soaring well into the mid-thirties, we were all eager to get out there on the water.
This was going to be fun!
