Charlotte and Will went down a
night early to do a spot of front-country camping at Jeremy’s Bay Campground in
Kejimkujik National Park, with plans to meet Michelle in the morning, who was
catching a ride down with our friends, Jody and Tanya.
After setting up camp, we spent
the last of the evening sunlight playing at the playground nearby...
...then settled in for a real
“Dad Feast” of steak, fried halloumi cheese, pork belly, and steamed
vegetables to fend off the scurvy.
The weather was cold and
crystal clear, with a frost warning issued for that night, so we made sure
Charlotte was nice and snuggly in her Hennessy Hammock. Will even boiled water
and gave her two hot water bottles (just in case).
Of course, she kicked her
covers off because she was too hot!
The stars were fabulous all
evening, and along with a barred owl, keeping is company in the tree
next door, we saw a bunch of shooting stars when we scrambled out of our
sleeping bags for a 2 am pee in the woods.
All in all, Dad was proud of
his little girl for adapting so well to sleeping in a hammock in the middle of
the woods. Next morning, it was up and atom. Time to break camp, and step it up
a notch for a bit of back-country canoe camping.
