Thanksgiving Baby

-->
For the Kiwis, back home that don't know what Thanksgiving Day is all about, let me bring you up to speed. Once again, I have taken the liberty of doing my research and delved off into the ever-changing archives of Wikipedia. The history lesson that follows will blow your weary minds, but first, I wanted to tell you about our extra special Thanksgiving Day we had last month.

I know what you're thinking. All days off work are special and it's just another holiday, so who cares? Fair question, only this time things were different. Not only was this October the very first Thanksgiving Day for little Tiggy, (given that she's not even one yet), but it was also the first Thanksgiving Day for me.

Guess what Mum, it's just like we used to see it on the Cosby show. You know, a functional, nuclear family where everyone gathers around the Turkey Dinner and apologies for their old man.

We had a great day. Michelle cooked a wonderful Turkey Dinner. Joanie came over with some baking and everyone made fun of Dad over a glass or two of wine. Even Tiggy managed to squeeze in a cheeky comment through the mouth full of Turkey dinner, (albeit mashed up to within an inch of its life and barely recognisable).

Anyway, for those of you that have never spent much time on this side of the globe, Thanksgiving is a real hoot. I'll even go so far as to say it was a nice alternative to the Labour Weekends we get back home. We didn't get to have a BBQ on the beach, nor did we go diving for scallops and crays at the Merc's - but we did get to go pheasant shooting and took a day off to eat Turkey and drink wine with family and friends. It's a pretty good trade in my little book of events, for sure.

Good one Charlotte. Chalk this one up as another first. May we always be able to come together and share many more Turkey dinners to come.

Thanks for all the hard work, Michelle. Love both to you and kiddo, and allow me to give thanks, xx Will.

Thelma and Louise

Perhaps it's a little late to be writing about this now, but I thought it's worth a mention all the same. At the beginning of October Michelle and Charlotte deserted me! They just up and left. The Kiwi boy, all alone in the middle of the Maritimes, on the Atlantic Coast, half a world away from home - all because the girls had packed themselves up and decided to do a runner off to Moncton; of course, with Nanny Pinfold in tow.

Michelle and Charlotte getting ready for their journey.

At first, I thought this was a great idea because it would give Michelle a break from my smelly socks smoldering under the coffee table and it would mean that I would get to drink beer, eat Chinese food, sleep on the couch after attempting meaningful conversation with the dog.

Tig looking forward to hanging out with her Moncton cousins.

Well, it was everything we hoped that it would be. Charlotte was a little angel (everyone says that about their own demon spawn), Michelle got to hang out with Joanna and John and have some 'adult time', while Joan made sure her sister Carol was missing out on good shopping to sit with the kids, read stories and generally make them laugh.

They were only gone for a couple of days, but absence makes the heart grow fonder and I found out very quickly that man cannot live on peanut butter on toast and blocks of cheese alone. From what I hear, Charlotte didn't seem to mind the Pack'n Play beside Mum's bed, (even though her tummy was giving her a little bit of trouble), Lily and Gregory had a great time hangin' with their tiny cousin and even the dog seemed pleased for the break from all the bells and whistles blaring out of the Fisher-Price menagerie.

One the road again - Tiggy catches a few zZz's on the trip home to Halifax.

Nothing much else to say about that, other than leftover Chinese Food is a great lunch to take to work. Glad you had a great time, girls. Next time, Joanna, John and the kids will have to roll down here. Nana Joanie has another story for the kids I'm sure.

Will-bob sends.
